voices from history re-enactment, and visual arts.
- The Old Town School of Folk Music's Juneteenth celebration is an all
inclusive community event with live musical performances, art, poetry, creative workshops,
and storytelling. Food vendors will be available to serve up traditional Southern style
and African food. Live performances begin on stage at 2:30pm and continue through 8:00pm
and include a talented roster of instrumentalists, singers, dancers, and poets in the
jazz, singer-songwriter, and avant-garde idioms hosted by the event's founder Bill
Brickey, and performance poet Marvin Tate. When: Sunday, June 18th, 2000; Time: 1:00pm to

- 'Oh' Freedom! Celebration Chicago Historical
Society; 1061 N. Clark, Chicago, IL 60614; 312-642-5035 Extension The day 'freedpm' came
is remembered with music, song, dance, a dramatic production "My Lord What A
Morning", and storytelling for a joyous and jubilant celebration. Games for children
and adults and food vendors.
- On Saturday, June 17, 2000 the Coalition for
Improved Education in South Shore (CIESS) will be hosting its third annual Juneteenth
Celebration. This year's Juneteenth Celebration will begin with a parade down 79th Street
beginning in front of the New Regal Theatre (off Stony Island) and ending in Rainbow Beach
Park 79th Street and South Shore Drive. At Rainbow Beach there will be vendors, free food,
games, and entertainment for the entire family beginning at noon and lasting until 6:00

The Nu Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. presents its 5th
Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 16, 2000. This event will be held at the
Packard Plaza on 225 NE Adams Street in Peoria from 7:30pm til 1am. The attire is
afrocentric or semi-formal and the ticket cost is $25. There will be food, music, songs,
poetry, an instrumental, and a guest speaker. A good time is guaranteed to be had by all.

activites such as chess tournaments, African fashion show contest, art & artifacts,
health screenings,the crowning of Miss Juneteenth, African dancing, & etc. This event
