- Iowa Juneteenth - June 16 – Neighbors Day - The
Official Iowa Juneteenth Observance. A parade leaves
Drake University (parking lot at 24th & Carpenter) at 9
AM and proceeds to Evelyn Davis Park (14th & Forest).
Exhibits, Kiddies Theme Park, Baby Contest, 3 on 3
Basketball Tournament, job seminars & recruitment
activities, games, face painting, drill teams, live
music, great food, horses, and health services at Evelyn
Davis Park from Noon to 7 PM. Call Gary Lawson at

“Iowa Juneteenth Talent Search” conducted at King
Elementary School, 1849 Forest Avenue from 8 AM to 4 PM.
Open to the public. All types of talent (gospel and
other) will be judged by a panel. Each category of
winners receives $500 for 1st place, $300 for 2nd place,
and $200 for 3rd place. No registration, just show up

18, 2005 - African American Historical Museum & Cultural
Center of Iowa: The African American Historical
Museum and Cultural Center of Iowa will hold its annual
Juneteenth Celebration on June 23, 2005 from 10 a.m. - 7
p.m. At 10 a.m., we'll kick off the festivities with the
dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. monument
and the 12th Avenue Bridge will officially be renamed
the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge. Following the
dedication ceremony, there will be games and prizes,
live entertainment throughout the day, a sweet potato
pie sale, various food vendors and non- food vendors ,
information booths, arts and crafts for children. In
addition to the festivities, those who purchase a
Freedom Festival button, can view the Museum's gallery
at 1/2 price admission and will receive a 10% discount
off any purchase in the Nikee Museum Store. |

Burlington, Iowa Branch of the NAACP is gladly sponsoring our 8th Juneteenth Celebration on
Saturday, June 18, 2005 in DeEdwin and Gladys White Memorial Park
(300 block of Angular) from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Many activities have been planned: awarding of scholarships, drill teams, music, bingo, face painting, bounce house, games, crafts and food vendors, . Come and sign in at our registration table and pick up a program. Our theme is Juneteenth -Thriving and Alive in 2005 . We will have available our unique, very popular t-shirts.
