June 20 - 21, 2008 - The C & S Tavern, Sinker Worthy and the Bad Boys of Roxbury - Join us each evening beginning at 9pm at The C&S Tavern, 380 Warren Street, Roxbury-headquarters of Sinker Worthy and the Bad Boys of Boston. As Roxbury sisters and brothers connect this year, we will celebrate the historic Orange Line. Come on down to Warren St. and MLK Blvd. where generation upon generation get the party started! Our cocktail menu boasts a frosty "Orange Lyne" special not to be missed. Friday night's live entertainment features "Athene Wilson and Friends". SHARPSBURG
June 23, 2008 - President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation at Antiedam. Ms. Edna Medford an Emancipation Proclamation scholar at Howard and Mr. Buz Carnahan (who wrote a book on the Emancipation Proclamation)  and a  re-interpretation of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment.  Free Posters Free  posters of Juneteenth and copies of the Emancipation Proclamation will be available.

  • June 21, 2008 - Fort McHenry National Shrine - Did you know that slaves and freemen helped to build Fort McHenry and served on both sides of the War of 1812?   • June 19, 2008 - Civil War Museum - Discussion of Slavery in Maryland - Chris Haley, Alex Haley's nephrew  is director of research for the study of the legacy of slavery in Maryland at the Maryland State Archives. He also serves as secretary of the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes the appreciation and understanding of black history.   • June 19, 2008 - JHU Black Faculty & Staff Association - The Johns Hopkins University, Homewood Campus June 19th 4pm - 7pm This is an annual event hosted by the Black Faculty and Staff Association at the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Calvin James is this year's speaker.  Recognition will be given to our graduates. Awards will be presented to our executive board and committee participants. There will be music, dance and plenty of sole food.

ACCOKEEK
June 14, 2008 - Southminster Presbyterian Ch. - Held from noon until 4 pm at the National Colonial Farm, Accokeek, MD, directly across the Potomac River from Mt. Vernon, this celebration includes: a barbeque cook-out, strawberry soda pop, with potluck side dishes. The history of Juneteenth is read. Games for all ages, include: baseball, frisbee, watermelon seed spitting contest, egg toss contest, and other games, fishing (license required). Tours of the National Colonial Farm are available.

Saturday June 16, 2007 - Lesole's Dance Project - We are a South African Dance company made up of African Americans and South Africans who are uniting the celebration of Juneteenth with South Africa's Youth Day which is on June 16th and commemorates the Soweto Township Educational Uprisings from 1976.

Singing, African drummers, poetry and dancing.


June 18, 2005 - Maryland 10th Cavalry Gun Club, LLC - Our event is held at our Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore, Inc. Patapsco sport shooting ranges, located in Marriottsville, MD 21104.  The event is from 9:00AM - 4:00PM and includes firearm safety classroom and live fire training, and an old fashioned BBQ Lunch. 
We promote our African American Heritage as Free Persons and as Soldiers and Civil Servants that have served with honor throughout America's History. Slaves could not own guns in America, only Free Persons, and this is why we as an African American Gun Club Celebrate Juneteenth.  Our name is derived from the legendary US Army 10th Cavalry, better known for its Native American given name … Buffalo Soldiers.
