of festive celebration. The day will be filled
with live music, drill teams, clowns contestes bar-b-que,
face painting community organizations and fun for every

- On Monday, June 19, 2006, Newark, NJ will host one of many national observances of the 140th Anniversary of Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the oldest, nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. The event, entitled Higher Ground, Still Rising, will be held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), One Center Street in downtown Newark at 8 pm, and will feature the work of renowned New York choreographer/director, Obediah Wright (www.ObediahWright.com).Higher Ground, Still Rising is a multi-media presentation created, conceived and directed by Obediah Wright featuring the athleticism of Balance Dance Theatre and special guests. Tap dancer Savion Glover, Grammy Award-winning a capella group Take 6 and contemporary Gospel singer Desiree Coleman Jackson, will receive Higher Ground Awards. Newark’s own Provenance Music Group and Bishop Eric McDaniel & TLC Cathedral Choir from the Bronx are featured guests.

Our seventh "Honoring Our Heroes and Sheroes Luncheon" will be held at Maxine2's, Warren St., Trenton, NJ, from noon to 1:30 PM. Honorees are Councilperson-at-Large Cordelia Staton, the founders of the Afrikan Peoples Action School, and Mrs. Elizabeth Ragsdale, whose father, William James Allen, found the Lindbergh baby.(Because we have limited seating,we ask that you call to reserve a seat for the luncheon. 609 599 3653 for information.)A Family Day of Celebration will be held at Cadwalader Park, Parkside Ave., Trenton, from 2 to 7 PM. The 6th Regiment US Colored Troops Re-enactors will be with us again.
Singers, speakers, dancers, music, proclamations, games for the whole family. Sodas to the first 50 children accompanied by an adult. A dessert baking contest, with cash prize for the winner, will be held. Bring your chairs, food, board games and come out for a day of edutainment. Bring your instruments, songs, poetry and share who you are with us. Bring the children for the sack, three-legged, spoon, and relay races, jump rope, horse shoes, etc. We've got cards for the adults. This will be a day celebrating for us, telling our story.
