SOUTH BOSTON |

HILL MANSION - On Sunday, June 19th at 4:00 p.m.,
the community is invited to a FREE old-fashioned
family-style picnic at the Berry Hill Mansion.
Many of us have ancestors who lived and worked at the
mansion, but a large segment of our local community has
not had the opportunity to visit it. The mansion, which
reopened on June 1st, belongs to the community and the
desire is to encourage the community to celebrate our
beautiful asset and to celebrate Juneteenth by visiting
and touring the mansion. It’s a great way to
celebrate Father’s Day also. The best gift that we can
give our loved ones is quality time together. And
as mentioned, there is no cost for participation.
We ask each family to dress comfortably and to bring a
covered dish, or if you prefer to pack a picnic basket,
that’s fine also. Berry Hill is providing all of
the drinks, delicious grilled hot dogs with all of the
trimmings, and all of the paper products. Planned
activities include a very, very brief program (about 20
minutes) to help the community better grasp the purpose
of the Juneteenth celebration. We will offer tours
of the mansion, sack races, horseshoes, lawn games,
board games and door prizes. The event will be
held in the courtyard with chairs and a large white
tent, and seating will also be available in the
adjoining dining room. We are prepared for rain or
shine. Participants need to come prepared to
celebrate Juneteenth and have a very relaxing afternoon
of good fun, food, and fellowship. Bill Carder, Berry
Hill’s General Manager and Suzanne Gandy, Public
Relations Manager has asked that anyone with questions
please contact Wanda Jeffress at 434-572-1948. |
